CHE DIFFERENZA?

 I'd prefer to walk (rather) than take / taking the bus. si usa quando si riferisce a quel momento,a una situazione o cosa specifica

I prefer walking to taking the bus .

 il verbo in ING si usa quando si parla in generaleCHIEDERE

USO QUOTIDIANO
Prefer è abbastanza formale.Nella conversazione quotidiana si usa
like...better 

I prefer football to tennis
I like football better than tennis
